Murchison Falls National park comprises of the Murchison falls, Bundogo forest, Bugungu and Karuma Wildlife Reserves. The park derives its name from the Murchison Falls where the mighty River Nile explodes through a narrow gorge and flows down to become a calm river whose banks are thronged with hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks and buffaloes. The vegetation is characterized by savannah, riverine forest and woodland. Wildlife includes lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeests, oribis, Uganda Kobs, chimpanzees and many bird species including the rare shoebill.
What to do in Murchison Falls National Park-Uganda
The 17km soothing boat cruise along River Nile down to the bottom of falls, provides a close gaze at a variety of wildlife like no where else in East Africa. Look out for multitudes African giant Elephants, lions, giraffes, waterbuck, hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles, water birds like shoebill, pelicans, cormorants and so much more.

In the cool early morning before the sun rises too high, set out for a game drive through the Buligi, Albert and Queen’s tracks north of the River Nile. At Nyamusika Cliffs you might be able to see Elephants and other game on the grassy hillsides. Go well prepared for a four-hour game drive. The best time is 06:30hr and 16:00hr.

How to get to Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda
There are various routes by road to the Murchison falls. By air, Pakuba airfield receives scheduled flights from Entebbe airport. Pakuba airfield is just 13km off the park headquarters.
The route from Kampala through Masindi town to Kichumbanyobo gate is the most used route and this is about 300km long-taking about the 4-5hours drive. This is the shortest route and perhaps the most convenient since 175km of the road is tarmac and 125km has fine marram.
