After an early breakfast on day one of your 4-Day fly-in Uganda Safari, our driver will then drop you to Entebbe International Airport.

From here, a light aircraft flight will take you to Kasese Airstrip which is close to Kibale. After lunch, you will be driven to the park’s visitor centre to do an afternoon chimpanzee trek which begins promptly at 2 pm.

The encounter commences with a briefing from the excellent local park rangers who will be your guides for the activity. After the briefing, you head to the forest in search of man’s closest relative.

The activity lasts about 2 to 5 hours and over the years have had a 95% success rate of seeing some of Kibale’s 1,500 chimpanzees. The chimps are completely wild but they have been habituated to human visitors and thus offer you a chance to draw quite close to them and take pictures.

Viewing them as they enjoy fruits, swinging in trees, socializing, patrolling and making hooting calls is memorable experience that you will treasure forever. You have a full hour to enjoy these precious primates and you are free to take as many photos as you wish!

There are also several other primates present in Kibale’s lush flora including Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, Black-and-white colobus monkeys, Red Colobus monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Blue monkeys, Olive baboons, and the rare L’Hoest’s Monkey. Here, you will join other visitors for a briefing by one of the park staff. After that, you will meet with the lead ranger guide who will take you into the forest to find a family of gorillas that you will be allocated to.

Expect to hike for 2 to 7 hours through steep and muddy trails, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will certainly be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest, a unique and unforgettable experience!

Unfortunately, Mountain gorillas are one of the world’s most endangered primates so the entrance and gorilla trekking fees revenue generated from tourism in protected parks such as Bwindi, offer them their only chance of survival. Distinct Lowland gorillas that live in the lowland forests of Central and West Africa, Mountain gorillas are found at an altitude of between 1520 and 3650 meters. Gentle giants and vegetarians, they are usually peaceful unless provoked.

You will spend a maximum of an hour observing the gorillas after encountering them. You will then enjoy your packed picnic lunch and returning to the park offices where you will be rewarded a gorilla trekking certificate. On returning to the lodge, you will fresh up and relax.

In the evening you will go for a cultural encounter with the Batwa People who have inhabited the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for thousands of years and have not forgotten the old ways of life. You will witness a re-enactment of life as it was for the Batwa in the rainforest, and interact with these incredible people.
