Day 1: Visit Lake Mburo National Park

Your short 4 Days Uganda Safari starts today.

Your tour driver shall pick you up from Kampala or Entebbe at around 7.30 am and take you on a 3-4 hour drive to Lake Mburo National Park, the closest park to Kampala and Entebbe.

After a drive of about 77km (2 hours), you will have a remarkable stop at the Uganda Equator Crossing, Kayabwe where you can stand in with one leg in the Northern hemisphere while the other in the Southern! It makes for great photographs and memories.

From there, you continue your way to Mburo. Upon arrival you shall check into the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.

You then set out to experience the park. Drive through the game trails and enjoy the beautiful savannah as you observe a range of animals and birds. Mburo offers the best sightings of many herbivores animals such as antelopes, zebras, buffaloes and giraffes but not so good for cats.

Do not expect to see any lions. Leopards and Hyenas are in abundance but quite elusive. After the game drive you shall go for the boat ride on Lake Mburo, the biggest lake in the park, to watch water animals such as hippos and crocodiles and water birds for the keen birder.

This is one of the most exciting game walks in Uganda, in a beautiful area with a knowledgeable local ranger guide.

On the walk you may see various species of primates, birds, antelopes like Common Eland, Waterbuck, Impala, Topi, Bushbuck and Klipspringer among others, as well as Hyena, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra and Warthog.

After the walk you’ll have breakfast, check out and continue on a scenic 4-5 hour drive southwest to the great Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

About Bwindi

Despite its rather forbidding name, Bwindi is a tropical forest wonderland. The forest park is one of the most biologically diverse places in Africa.

It has dense jungle vegetation and is home to the half the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population as well as 120 other mammal species, including giant hogs and forest elephants; 350 bird species (including 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemic species), more than 200 butterfly species, 27 species of frogs, over 1,000 flowering plant species and 324 species of trees.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Culture

4 Days Uganda Safari

Bwindi has 20 known habituated gorilla families and after a hearty breakfast to fuel you for your trek, you will have your packed lunch and transfer to the park offices at 7.00 am where you meet your expert local park ranger guides for briefing and allocation of the gorilla families.

At 8.00 am, you’ll then set into jungle to track your assigned family.

The trek to see gorillas can be relatively hard as the mountains are steep, the air humid and the vegetation dense. But the trek is all worth it when you finally reach a family of rare mountain gorillas eating, grooming, playing or napping.

Their behavior is so familiar that you may feel like you have known them all your life; it is an inspiring and privileged moment to see these highly endangered Great Apes in the wild. Once back at the lodge, you will have some time to rest as you reflect on this truly incredible experience.

If you still feel energetic, in the evening you will go for the Batwa Pygmies Cultural Experience. Bwindi has long been home to the Batwa people and although they no longer live as they once did in the forest, they have kept many of their indispensable hunter-gatherer skills that they are happy to share with visitors.

Talking to the Batwa will give you a greater understanding of the forest ecosystem and how intermeshed human and animal life is.
