After your cruise, return to the lodge to freshen up before enjoying a sundowner drink and your welcome dinner. In the background you will have the sounds of the wildlife that reside along the mighty Zambezi. Then you’ll settle in for a good night’s sleep. Welcome to Zambia!

Day 2: Chobe National Park – Botswana

On day two, you set out early for your full-day safari in Chobe National Park, one of Botswana’s best game parks. The 12,000 square kilometer park takes its name from the river of the same name. It encompasses an incredible diversity of habitats, ranging from arid plains and dry channels to fertile grasslands, dense woodland and watery swamps. Its diverse ecosystems support a high density and rich variety of animals and birds.

It was the first national park of Botswana, gazetted in 1967. With your passport, you will travel to the border post and once through there you head to the Botswana entry gate, stopping along the way to step on a sanitized mat to prevent Foot and Mouth disease from entering the country.

On arrival in Botswana, you will transfer to an open safari vehicle for the trip to Chobe National Park and for game viewing. You will tour the northern section of the park where the Chobe River forms the border in the north.

Chobe River Cruise

Your adventure will begin with a river cruise. Chobe National Park is home to some of Africa’s highest concentrations of game, with the region boasting the largest continuous African Elephant population on the continent, about 80,000 individuals at the last count.

Seeing these giants crossing, playing in and swimming in the Chobe river is a sight you’ll never forget. Apart from the large number of pachyderms, Chobe River attracts a variety of animals and birds, and offers guests some of the best sunset views anywhere in Africa.

You take a welcome lunch break at Chobe Game Lodge, where a buffet awaits you. A complimentary drink and tea or coffee are served with lunch.

Game Drive In Chobe National Park

Feeling revived you will go on an afternoon game drive. Besides the many elephants you are sure to see, Chobe National Park is home to some of Africa’s highest year-round concentrations of wildlife, particularly predators. Lions at Chobe are world famous for having learnt how to prey on African Elephants, occasionally even adults!

You will also search for African Buffalo, Leopard, African Wild Dog, Hippos, Crocodiles, Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Puku, Lechwe, Waterbuck, Bushbuck and huge herds of zebra. Some of the special birds you could see include African Spoonbill, Copper Sunbird, Brown Firefinch, Slaty Egret, African Skimmer, Rock Pratincole, Half-collared Kingfisher and White-crowned Lapwing.

Chobe National Park is also famous for being the base for many world-renowned wildlife photographers. Many award-winning photos, videos and documentaries have been captured here. Be sure to bring your cameras ready if you have it. It is also advisable to have sunscreen and a hat for this 3-hour game drive in the hot, afternoon sun.

After your thrilling Chobe Safari in Botswana, you head back to Victoria Falls in Zambia, through the border posts arriving at our hotel approximately 18:00.

Day 3: Upper Zambezi Canoeing Trip Zambia

Day three of your 5 Days Victoria Falls and Chobe Safari Package includes canoeing on the Zambezi, visiting Victoria Falls waterfall, and a local cultural experience.

In the morning, you will set off on a half-day canoeing trip on the Upper Zambezi River, above the spectacular Victoria Falls. Canoeing is the perfect way to explore the scenic Upper Zambezi River area. After a safety briefing by the professional river guide and a quick practice session on the water, the paddle will begin.

This is not a challenging paddle, navigating only small, easy rapids, and no canoeing experience is required. You will take a lazy paddle down the Upper Zambezi, looking out for hippos, buffalos, crocodiles, elephants, kudus, impalas, and other untamed creatures along the river banks.

Canoeing along the river is also a great way to spot birds, look out for the powerful Martial Eagle, among the over 50 bird species commonly sighted. You will also pass national parks on the Zimbabwean banks and pristine bush on the Zambian side.

This gentle paddle is all about soaking up the beautiful scenery and enjoying the local fauna and flora up close. Afterward, there is time for a picnic lunch on the riverbank.

Guided Victoria Falls Tour

This afternoon the adventure continues with a guided tour of Victoria Falls, led by an expert local guide. You will walk through lush rainforests on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls visiting vantage points that offers breathtaking views of this natural wonder.

The walk takes you across Knife Edge Bridge and through the forest, hosting plant species rarely found in other parts of Zambia or Zimbabwe.

In 1851, explore David Livingstone first heard of the great waterfall, but it was only in 1855 that he set out to visit it. He spent the night on Kalai Island some few kilometres upstream of the falls, having come down river by foot, and the next morning set off in a small canoe to approach the thundering smoke he had seen from afar.

He landed on the biggest island on the lip of the falls, now called Livingstone Island and from there obtained his first view of the Falls. He wrote, ‘No one can imagine the beauty of the view from anything witnessed in England. It had never been seen before by European eyes, but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’.

Known to locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or ‘The Smoke That Thunders’- Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the ‘Seven Natural Wonders of the World’.

When it is at its peak, around April every year, an astounding 750,000m3 of water thunders down the cliff face per minute, making it the world’s largest waterfall by volume!

But, no amount of cold facts can prepare you for the sight of this unfathomably vast and powerful body of water that plunges into the Zambezi gorge.

It truly is magnificent and unforgettable, and a must-see for adventure and wildlife travellers from all over the world. The skilled guide explains the geology of Victoria Falls and tells you more about this epic waterfall as you walk.

Cultural Village Tour

An experienced guide will take you on the village tour, which offers insight into the lives of local people in Zambia and their rich cultural traditions. You will tour Mukuni Village to see how the Leya people live and find out more about their unique customs and history.

Mukuni village was founded in the 13th century. It was the largest village on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls before Livingstone was set up.

The Village was formerly known as Gundu. It was renamed after Chief Mukuni from the Congo when he conquered it in the 18th century. Today this African rural village is home to around 7000 people and has its own school, clinic, two churches, shops, boreholes, and bars.

During the tour, you will see how the local people build and decorate their huts, engage in small-scale farming, and create African curios. It is a fascinating glimpse into the mix of modern and traditional living in Zambia.

This scenic Flight of Angels is conducted in a helicopter designed to offer each passenger fantastic views. From above the falls, it is easy to see why the helicopter flight over Victoria Waterfalls is called the Flight of Angels!

After an exhilarating flight, you will return to the hotel and you will have lunch somewhere in town close to the falls. The afternoon is all yours!
